Clematis - Teshio

Clematis Teshio, Clematis 'Teshio', is a Japanese cultivar with newly opening flowers that look like small hedgehogs because of the curled tepals. When the double lavender-blue flowers fully open, they are 3-4" wide with a slightly flattened look. Blooms May-July. A unique variety with a compact habit that is perfect for container. Clematis 'Teshio' needs a supporting structure to grow properly, and it is easy to grow with a rich, porous, alkaline soil that has plenty of room for the roots to spread. Best performance is when the tops are in full sunlight and the roots are shaded, but will thrive and bloom in shade. Apply a generous mulch or a shallow-rooted ground cover near the base of the vine. Very reliable performers once established; they take a season or two. Prune lightly above the new leaf buds in early spring and remove any dead or weak stems.
